Prior to joining the Essex Scottish Regiment in Europe, Howard spent time in Britain during the regiment’s buildup in 1944, following the Dieppe raid. He then joined them in Germany and later took part in Holland’s campaign, during its liberation. At the war’s end, he returned to Canada via Britain.
Howard reenlisted with the 2nd Canadian Guards in 1957, and served in Germany with his family until 1959. They then moved to CFB Borden (59-60) and CFB Petawawa (60-69). Howard spent six months participating in the United Nations peacekeeping efforts in Cyprus during his time in Petawawa.
When the 2nd Guard Regiment disbanded, he re-badged with the 2nd RCR and ultimately retired in 1977.
Bravo Zulu Howard.
