Clyde Sheppard

Clyde Sheppard was a veteran of the Second World War, having served with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps as a medic and ambulance driver. He joined the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 128 Whitney Pier) in 1948 and was president at the time of his death in 2012.

Valour, responsibility, compassion, honour, dedication, gratitude – these are the words that come to mind when I think of Clyde Sheppard. These values are the gifts he gave his family, community and country.

Clyde’s service to protecting our great nation is part of his legacy. His three sons served with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (Retired Sergeant Allen Sheppard, Retired Corporal Joseph Sheppard, and Retired Corporal Shawn Sheppard), and his dedication to the armed forces lives on through his grandson, Petty Officer 1st Class Kurt Sheppard, CD and great-grandson, Corporal Brett Nicholson, CFIOG.

Clyde Sheppard was my grandfather. His service is why I choose to participate in the Canada Army Run, and his memory and spirit are why I am able to cross the finish line.
