Let me introduce you to my father. My Hero!
WO Aimé Michaud (Ret), R22R, Korean War Veteran, Instructor in Physical Fitness (PERI Staff). 21 February 1930 – 12 April 2024.
My father was the most caring, loving and patient man. He and my mother raised 2 daughters. We lived mostly in Quebec City, where my Dad served with the R22R in both Valcartier and the Citadelle, training recruits.
He was posted to La Macaza, 447 SQN during the “Cold War” mid-1960’s. He was one of the first Army francophones posted to an Air Force base. My father was in charge of the Recreation Centre. This Bomarc Station was a semi-isolated Station, where, with a group of military volunteers, they made a beach for the Station Community.
We then moved to RMC St-Jean, QC, where yet again, my father worked and trained many Officer-Cadets. The pool was his domain, and water polo was his game!
He moved back to Quebec City with my Mom and sister, where he retired. He never stayed idle for long. He kept busy with his restaurant business and in different, local city groups. He always stayed close to his beloved R22R family, either by training at the Valcartier gym or volunteering in a Korean War Veteran organization. He also guest lectured at a local school during Remembrance Day activities
My father passed away, peacefully, on 12 April 2024, at Maison Paul-Triquet, a Long-Term Care facility for Veterans of the Second World War and the Korean War. We found out, but too late, that my father suffered from PTSD. Maybe that was the reason he kept so active.
I started running the Army Run in 2013. This is “MY” run and allows my thoughts to connect with my Dad. I had hoped to do the 2014 Army Run with my father as that run was dedicated to the R22R. While his health prevented that, I did run it with some family members.
“I Love Dad.” Je Me Souviens.
