Captain Vassie, my father’s mother’s brother was a memory of the Royal Canadian Artillery, 1 Medium Regt. He died on July 6, 1945 in Holland, after the Germans had been defeated from a gun shot which was either self inflicted or the result of an accident. He has previously been wounded in Italy. He was buried in GROESBEEK CANADIAN WAR CEMETERY in Holland. It’s important that we acknowledge the PTSD is real and that it sometimes takes lives of first responders in the military, in police and in medical professions. His father, a Colonel, also served in the artillery in world war 1 in Europe but he came home safely.
