In 1949, Alfred Jordan enlisted in the 32nd Field Regiment (Reserve) in Toronto. In February 1949, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Artillery. His first posting was to the Artillery School in Shilo, Manitoba. He completed his training as a gunner with the 1st Regiment, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery.
In 1950, Alfred was posted to the RCAF Anti-Aircraft Artillery School in Picton, Ontario. He completed his tour of duty as Sergeant, Group 2, Gunnery and Radar Instructor.
In 1953, the 3rd Regiment, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, was formed, and Sergeant Jordan was assigned to a five-man detachment bound for Korea.
In 1955, Sgt. Jordan retired honourably from active service. In 1957, he joined the West Nova Scotia Regiment (Reserve), attaining the rank of WO2 and remaining with the regiment until 1983. His total years of military service amount to 34 years.
In 1969, WO Jordan joined The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #06 in Kings, Kentville, Nova Scotia, where he served three terms as President, among many other duties. In 1981, he joined the Atlantic Provinces Korea Veterans Association, where he held several administrative positions.
In 2002, he was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal.
During his military service, Alfred Jordan received the following medals:
Canadian Volunteer Service Medal for Korea.
United Nations Korea Medal.
Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal.
Canadian Forces Decoration with a bar for 12 years of service with good conduct. A second bar was awarded after 22 years of service.
