Private 1st Class Malcolm Frederick Barnett, D Coy, North Shore Regiment
Born in 1921 in Lancaster (Saint John), NB, Pte Barnett enrolled in the Canadian Army in 1940 and was a member of the North Shore Regiment from New Brunswick. As part of a 3-person mortar crew within D Coy, Pte Barnett trained in Scotland before eventually participating in the Allied invasion force at Normandy. Having survived the initial fighting at Normandy, Pte Barnett was wounded 3 weeks later during the campaign to take Caen; an injury that kept him in medical care until late 1940s, and ultimately ending his service time within the War and the Canadian Army.
Pte Barnett is being represented at the Canadian Army Run by his eldest grandson, Major Jon Barnett, and his wife (Eliane) and two daughters (Anna & Alice).
