My father, Gordon Carbert, joined the Forestry Corps in 1942, at the age of 20. After basic training at Valcartier, Quebec, he went overseas to Scotland. In 1944, he was sent to England, then France and Belgium, as well as Germany and Holland. Gordon was discharged in 1946, after 4 years’ service.
After the war, he kept a logbook, participated in numerous rodeos, including the Calgary Stampede, then married and devoted himself to ranching and farming. He lived by the Golden Rule, and I’m very proud to be his daughter.
