My Grandfather Gérard (1922–1992)

Born in 1922, my grandfather Gérard enlisted in the Régiment de la Chaudière to serve his country during World War II. After completing his training, he joined his brothers in England before being sent to the Netherlands to help liberate the country.

During that campaign, he was reported missing. To save his life, a Dutch farming family hid him until he could return home safely. This ordeal left a lasting mark on his life, but it never shook his courage.

Upon his return home, he married my grandmother. Together, they raised a large family of seven children, surrounded by love and strong values.

My grandfather was always deeply proud of his military service. A generous, sensitive, and unifying man, he was the heart of our family. His love, his quiet strength, and his dedication continue to inspire all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

In 1992, he passed away after a long illness. His memory lives on, as does our gratitude for his courage, his sacrifice, and the precious legacy he left us.

We will remember him with pride, gratitude, and love.

Your great-grandson is following in your footsteps; he is currently on a mission with NATO.

I love you, and I miss you every day.
