My great-uncle Charles went to the front line in September 1914. My grandfather was born in November and his name was Frank. A letter was sent to Charles and he replied that, if asked, he would have liked the baby to be called Albert, after the Prince. From then on, my grandfather was called Albert. The two brothers never met, Charles having died at Vimy. My son (who runs the 10 km) has Albert’s middle name, like his great-grandfather.
