My grandfather, Dean H. Dover served in the RCAF in WWII as a Spitfire pilot and Squadron Leader (C.O. of 412 Spitfire Squadron). He was a pilot instructor and staff officer with 442 Squadron in 1944 and later was squadron leader (412 Squadron) from August 1944 to January 1945. He had over 100 trips flying over various parts of Europe (France, UK, Netherlands, etc.) and was recognized for his devotion to duty and ability to lead. He led his squadron on at least 20 occasions over France with marked success and apart from assisting in destroying many enemy aircraft he had personally shot down two in combat well inside enemy occupied territory.

Having left the RCAF at the end of WWII, he then entered the business world for 40+ years. He passed away peacefully, at home in London, on June 2nd, 2000. He will always be remembered as a loving grandfather and a nature lover.
