Following in his father’s footsteps, Ray joined the army in the late 60s and served in various capacities in different units during his years of service. He first served with the RCR (CFB Petawawa, ON), then with the 3rd Canadian Mechanized Commando (CFB Baden, Germany). Later in his career, he ventured into the medical field and was stationed at NDMC in Ottawa, then CFB Gypsumville (MB), and finally CFB Esquimalt (Victoria, BC) where he transferred to the Navy. His last postings included CFB Petawawa (ON) with the 2nd Service Battalion, a second posting to Ottawa, and finally CFB Borden (ON), where he retired at the rank of Second Officer shortly thereafter, around 1995. Sadly, Ray passed away unexpectedly on November 9, 1997 at the age of 50, and was greatly missed by all.
