Havildar Major Rajindar Singh Dhatt MBE, my grandfather’s brother, was one of the last surviving Sikh soldiers of WWII. He dedicated his life not only to service in the war but also to fighting for recognition of Commonwealth soldiers, co-founding the Undivided Indian Ex-Servicemen’s Association. My own grandfather also served as a Captain in the army, and together, their stories remind me of the courage, sacrifice, and resilience that run through our family. Taking part in Remembrance Row is my way of honouring them both and ensuring their legacies live on.
