Trooper Josh Gordon Coutts joined the Fort Garry Horse regiment in Winnipeg, Manitoba on the 26th of June, 1917 and was discharged in Winnipeg on June 2, 1919.
According to his daughter Dorothy’s recollections he said:
“I never drew my sword or fired a shot” and also that
“The only French I ever heard Dad utter was: ‘Voulez-vous promenade avec moi ce soir mademoiselle?’ …which I have since learned was not quite as gallant or innocent as it sounds.”
