My grandfather, Pte Leslie Rothney, served in the 21st Canadian Armoured Regiment , GGFG in the Second World War. Born in Quebec in 1919, he left the family farm in Thetford Mines to enlist in the Army. He was in active service from June 1942 (first with 3 CACRU then the GGFG) and served our country until his discharge on February 1, 1946.

My Grampy is one of the reasons I participate in Army Run. I have the greatest respect and appreciation for our Canadian Armed Forces members who continue to serve both at home and abroad. A heartfelt thank you to all service members, past and present, for their service, their sacrifice, and our freedom.
