I run in memory of my big brother Ray.
August 31, 1938 – November 28, 2013

Ray dedicated his life to public service. He joined the Canadian Army at the age of 16. His service included peacekeeping missions in the Middle East and as a member of the military staff of the Canadian Embassy in Moscow. He retired in 1978, rising from apprentice soldier to officer, eventually retiring as a major. He then began a career as a civilian civil servant with the Department of National Defence. Extremely committed to his work on Canada’s defence procurement policy and strategy, he eventually rose to the position of Senior Assistant Deputy Minister (Materiel), which is equivalent to the military rank of Lieutenant-General, before retiring again in 1994. Never one to shy away from hard work, Ray later embarked on a third career as a business consultant.
I am very proud of him and thank him for his service.
I am hoping that there is still time to have Ray placed on Remembrance Row. It meant so much to our family to seek out his photo and have pictures with him.
I have to say though my highlight was running through the Military Cemetery and stopping at his graveside just to say hi, pay my respects, all while the bagpipes played in the background. ❤️
