In 1949 Alfred Jordan enlisted in the 32nd Field Artillery Regiment (Reserve) in Toronto. In February 1949 he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Artillery. His first posting was at the School of Artillery at Shilo, Manitoba. He completed his training as a Gunner in the 1st Regiment, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery.

In 1950 Alfred was posted to the School of Anti-Aircraft, RCA, in Picton, Ontario. He completed his tour of duty qualified as a Sergeant Group 2 Gunnery and Radar Instructor.

In 1953 the 3rd Regiment, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, was formed and Sgt. Jordan was given a detachment of 5 men heading overseas to Korea.

In 1955 Sgt. Jordan was honourably retired from active service. In 1957 he joined the West Nova Scotia Regiment (Reserve) and rose to the rank of WO2. He remained in this regiment until 1983. His total number of years of military service spanned 34 years.

In 1969 WO2 Jordan joined Kings Branch #06 Royal Canadian Legion, Kentville, Nova Scotia, where he held the office of President for 3 terms, among many other positions. In 1981 he joined the Atlantic Provinces Korea Veterans Association where he held several administrative positions.

In 2002 he was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal.

During his military service Alfred Jordan was awarded the following medals:

Canadian Volunteer Service Medal for Korea.
United Nations Korea Medal.
Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal.
Canadian Forces Decoration with one bar for 12 years of service with good conduct. Second bar awarded at 22 years of service.
