Wave Starts

Wave starts help ensure a safe start, so that not everyone is starting the race at the same time. The wave starts are organized by “corrals,” which are a way to group participants of similar speed and to assist in moving everyone into the race gradually. When you registered, you declared your anticipated finishing time; this determines which corral you will be part of. Your corral will be indicated on your bib when you pick it up. No matter which wave you are in, however, you will get your accurate race time because of the “timing chips” that are embedded into your bib.

To spread the field out at the start, runners will be sent off in a series of waves starting with the blue corral, followed by orange, yellow, green, purple and red corrals.

Each corral will be sent off approximately every two minutes. As one corral/wave sets off, the next corral will be brought forward to the start line and directed to wait until given the signal to start. This process will continue until all corrals/waves have left.

Soldier On Wave – Open to Military & Civilian Participants

Canada Army Run is proud to recognize and celebrate the achievements of participants with visible and non-visible conditions or injuries, who demonstrate for all the true meaning of “soldiering on”.

All participants in these categories start prior to the mass start of each event. Family, supporters or caretakers may participate in the same wave (please indicate your category as “support” when registering).

For visually impaired athletes, please reach out to us at info@armyrun.ca to receive a registration code for your guide to register at no additional cost.

Finish & Recovery

You’ve done it! You’ve crossed the finish line. Congratulations! People on the sidelines are cheering. Military leaders and other VIPs are giving high-fives. And photographers are taking pictures (don’t forget to smile!). Now what? Don’t stop! Keep moving down the finish line chute, where a uniformed Canadian soldier will place a finisher’s medal around your neck – a definite highlight for many. Relish the moment and then continue to the recovery area for refreshments. Once you’ve refuelled and re-energized, stick around and enjoy the Army Run weekend festivities!

Baggage Check

Canada Army Run offers a complimentary baggage check available to all participants located on site on race day. There will be signs directing you to this free service. All runners will receive a free race bag in their race kit. For the sake of convenience, space and time, it will be the only bag accepted at the volunteer-run bag check this year. Baggage check will open at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday morning prior to the start of the opening ceremonies.

Military Equipment Display, Military Re-Enactors and Historical Displays

When the Canadian Army needs to get from one place to another, it depends on its highly versatile collection of vehicles. Throughout Canada Army Run Weekend, you’ll have a chance to see lots of Army vehicles and other equipment. Check them out and take the opportunity to chat with the soldiers who use this equipment on the job every day.

Throughout the years and the many wars and conflict, Canada’s military participated with honour and distinction. To help preserve our history and remember the past, re-enactors and historical enthusiasts collect and display authentic antique and professionally reproduced military uniforms and equipment. There will be a number of re-enactors dressed in First World War, Second World War and other military uniforms on the grounds of Ottawa City Hall. Also showcased will be impressive static displays of military memorabilia presented by private historical collectors.
